Homemade Pumpkin Scones

This week my best friend Abby and I made Homemade Pumpkin Scones when we started this, we planned on using prepackaged pumpkin puree but then we became a little over confident and decided to make it from scratch!  And it actually was not that hard so here is a walk through of how to make pumpkin scones at home in a few easy steps!

For starters, we have to prepare the pumpkins, which meant cutting them in half in order to get the pumpkin gunk out of the insides!

Start with a baking pumpkin, the smaller ones that you can find in the produce section, we used two, and had a lot left over, so one should be perfect!

First, lets preheat our oven to 350 degrees
Like this!

Then you'll need to cut that puppy open! Start by removing the stem

Like so!

After that, slice the pumpkin open in half

Which will look like this and then begin to remove the seeds!  This is the yucky part and theres no perfect way to do it, I preferred using a knife, a spoon, scissors and my hands, where my friend used an ice cream scooper!  It doesn't matter as long as you get most of the gunk out and all of the seeds.  When you're done, it will look like this:

and this (throw this part away or make baked pumpkin seeds! Up to you!

Now, cut the halves into fourths

Once you have cut your pumpkin into fourths, place them in a pyrex glass pan, like we used, or a cookie sheet, whatever you want to use, insides facing up like so

Once you have all of the pumpkin halves in a pyrex pan, place them in the oven to bake for 45 minutes!

After that quick 45 they'll be ready to peel
You'l want to set a piece on a cutting board with a sharp knife and a fork, cut and peal off the rind, leaving as much of the soft pumpkin meat behind as you can.

Then blend cut the pumpkin into chunks and toss them in a food processor, we also tried using a Nutribullet but, it didn't work as quickly so I would use a food processor!

And that my friends is how you make a puree from scratch!

Switching gears, if you're still with me, lets get on to making the scones!

Start by combing your dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls, for amounts and items, see the URL link below!
And again, preheat the oven, this time to 400 degrees
Once you have gotten to this point, mix the ingredients well.
Next up is the slow, tricky part, take your butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it is tiny tiny.

The process will look something like this, and if you're baking with a friend, we recommend taking turns at this step.

After all the butter is mixed in well, combine the wet with the dry to begin forming your dough as seen in the next two frames

once your batter becomes more like a dough, spread out some parchment paper and grab your flour because its time to knead some dough!  After you knead the dough, roll it with a rolling pin into a rectangle, make sure the dough is still pretty thick, as pictured.

This recipe will make 16 scones when cut as shown above.  Take a cookie sheet and grease it well so that the scones will not stick to the cookie sheet after the baking process.

Line the baking sheet with your delicious scones and pop them in the oven for only 15 minutes, or until when pricked with a toothpick, the toothpick comes out clear.

Time to start the glaze!  Its a pretty basic step so I'll just show you what it looks like and you can follow along!

Basically when its all said and done with those glazes, they'll look like regular icing, and then you'll drizzle them over your completed scones and the end products look like this!

Yum!  Scones just in time for the autumnal season!
Happy Fall :)
